Prima 1000mg Capsule

Each soft gelatin capsule of Prima-1000 contains:

• Evening primrose oil: 1000mg
  • Active ingredients:
    • GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid): 10% = 100mg
    • LA (Linolenic acid): 72% = 720mg
  • Non-active ingredients and preservative agents:
    • DL-Alpha tocopherol (Vita-E): 5mg

Adverse Reactions:

Potential gastrointestinal symptoms and headaches have been reported. Caution is advised for those with a history of seizures.

Relative Reaction:

Interactions may occur with certain neuroleptic agents and drugs like warfarin, aspirin, fish oil, and NSAIDs.

Mechanism Of Action:

Prima-1000's potential anti-inflammatory and anti-aggregatory actions are attributed to GLA's role in eicosanoid Biochemistry. GLA is metabolized to dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA), a precursor to 1-series prostaglandins, inhibiting inflammatory processes. GLA also inhibits leukotriene synthesis, contributing to its anti-inflammatory effects.

Dosage & Administration of Prima 1000mg:

One or two capsules two to three times daily or as advised by the physician.

Usage In Different Fields:

Dermatology: Prima-1000 has shown effectiveness in treating various skin conditions, including atopic and allergic dermatitis, chronic dermatitis, acne, pruritus, and psoriasis. It promotes healthy skin and nourishes brittle nails and hair.

How to use:

• For atopic and allergic dermatitis: 1-2 capsules 2 times daily or as directed.
• For Stevens-Johnson Syndrome: 1 capsule 2 times daily for 15-20 days.
• For Psoriasis: Initially 1 capsule 2-3 times daily, followed by a maintenance dose.

Surgery/Gynaecology: Used for benign breast diseases and mastalgia, Prima-1000 has shown efficacy in reducing breast pain. Different dosages are recommended based on the type of mastalgia.

How to use:

• For benign breast diseases & mastalgia: 2-3 capsules daily for 3-4 months.
• For premenstrual syndrome (PMS): 1-2 capsules daily for 3-4 months.

Interaction of Prima 1000 mg:

There are no known drug interactions. However, steroids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may potentially interfere with essential fatty acid metabolism.

Contraindications

While it was previously not recommended for patients diagnosed with schizophrenia or those receiving epileptogenic drugs, recent analyses did not show a clear therapeutic or adverse effect on schizophrenic patients.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

No known restrictions. Prima 1000mg is non-teratogenic based on animal studies. It contains essential components found in human breast milk, making it suitable for use during nursing. WHO recommends that pregnant or lactating women should obtain 5% of their total daily caloric intake from EFAs.

Caution

• Hypersensitivity to Evening Primrose Oil
• Avoid during pregnancy
• Not recommended for individuals with epilepsy
• Prolonged use may lead to obesity
• Rare adverse effects include urticaria and loose motion
